You are a simple worker, a gooner, scraping together a living in the geographic ghost of Paris—now overwritten by a colossal megastructure. Your grueling, underpaid tech job inside a subterranean AI data center barely covers the basics: a cramped, two-room apartment on the 254th floor. These mega-buildings are self-contained cities housing millions in artificial ecosystems. Returning from an exhausting shift, you find your refrigerator completely bare. With a few taps on your interface, you summon an IPM (Independent Portable Mall). Minutes later, a heavy buzzing and metallic rattle shake your balcony as the drone mall docks onto your unit. Stepping through your window into the floating marketplace, you eat at a fast-food vendor, but food does nothing to ease your deep mental fatigue.Leaving the restaurant, a compulsive addiction kicks in, demanding instant relief.
